The JewelMint team is very excited to have actress Camilla Belle as this month’s Guest Curator. Read more to see what JewelMint piece she chose and why!

Camilla chose the Finnish inspired, Nordic Treasure Necklace. Half of the proceeds will go to Free the Slaves, an organization that Camilla has been working with for over three years. Free the Slaves is the largest anti-slavery organization in the United States that works with governments to reduce slavery and help create anti-slavery laws. Belle says that, “There are over 27 million slaves in the world right now, and Free the Slaves is making a difference. You can see the change they have been making around the world in countries like India, Africa, and Brazil.” InStyle even featured her in an exclusive post.

If you’ve had the chance to catch films like ‘When a Stranger Calls’ or ‘10,000 BC,’ you would have undoubtedly fallen head over heels for the lovely Camilla Belle. It’s no wonder the actress was ranked #1 on ‘The Most Beautiful Faces 2010’ list; Belle is a serious stunner. Having made her debut into the industry with a print ad at age nine, Camilla Belle is still going strong with four titles currently in the works for the upcoming year.

We had the chance to get her thoughts on all things trendy during this year’s Fashion’s Night Out in NYC.

5 Questions with Camilla Belle

1. What would you say is the next upcoming trend?
Honestly, I’m not one who is big on trends. I always have those go-to looks that I like on me even if they’re not on trend. A basic cut, basic colour, basic black dress…I’d rather wear that than follow trends that might not suit my body. I think the most important thing is to look in the mirror and see if you like it. That’s the most important thing.

2. Working in an industry where fashion is so important, where do you find the endless inspiration for all your different ensembles?
I think traveling really inspires me. Seeing how people dress in different countries. I was in Hong Kong for three months and I found myself trying to dress like the girls there with all the hair clips, tights, socks and glitter (laughs).

3. What is your favourite look for any woman?
I love a classic cut. A classic suit or trouser. I love a woman who can look good in a suit.

4. How do you define cool?
I guess a cool person would be someone who is easy-going. No drama.

5. What do you predict for the future of fashion?
I think fashion is always repeating itself. It goes in cycles. Recently I’ve really been into the 80s and 70s. There are so many designers inspired by history. My mom laughs at me and says “Hey you dress exactly like I did when I was your age!” (laughs) I think we’ll feel that way when we get older and see younger girls wearing the same things as us.

She was ranked number 1 in the list of Most Beautiful Faces 2010 and with good reason. She is after all drop-dead gorgeous. We are indeed talking about Camilla Belle who has featured in several Hollywood films like When A Stranger Calls, 10,000 BC, and The Patriot. Camilla was in town recently to speak about her latest film Speedy Singhs and we get you all the dope on what this Hollywood beauty feels about India, Bollywood and of course Speedy Singhs.

Camilla, I believe this is your first visit to India, how has been the experience so far?
Yes… it’s my first visit to India. We arrived last Thursday and it’s been quite a whirlwind trip so far. On Friday, I had a day off so I was able to see as many things as possible in Delhi. I explored the monuments, the local markets and even went on a rickshaw ride. India is a country I have always wanted to come to ever since I was a little kid and to be able to come here to promote my film is something really special. I hope to come back again just as a tourist so that I can see more of this beautiful country.

India is a country I have always wanted to come ever since I was a little kid and to be able to come here to promote my film is something really special You even visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar, how was that experience?
It was really overwhelming, it’s simply beautiful. It ended up becoming a bit chaotic as Akshay was with us and the crowds went berserk seeing him.

Coming to Speedy Singhs, how did you bag the film?
I received the script and when I went through it, there were quite a few elements that I could relate to one being that I too come from a multi-cultural background. My mom is a Brazilian. Being raised in a Brazilian household in Los Angeles, I too had that ‘Who Am I?’ question which is something the character of Rajveer too experiences in the film. Besides, I want to be known as a global actor and this film gave me an opportunity to work with Indian and international actors which is why I said Yes to it.

Tell us a bit about your character Melissa…
Melissa is a law student and she happens to meet Rajveer (Vinay Virmani) by accident when her brother (Rob Lowe) ends up becoming the coach of Speedy Singhs. They bicker at first and then a friendship is formed between Rajveer and my character which eventually results in a beautiful love story. She comes in handy and helps Speedy Singhs overcome certain cultural differences in Ice Hockey

How was it doing the song and dance sequences in the film?
I had so much fun. Vinay knows that. I was excited about the dance rehearsals to learn some new moves. I have been a dancer my whole life and to learn a new form of dancing was really exciting for me. I had an absolute blast filming all the dance sequences.

Also it must have been quite a blast having someone as funny as Russell Peters on set…
Yeah Russell was very distracting. But the thing is at times its useful having people like Russell on set especially when you are shooting in tough conditions. He just knows how to light up the atmosphere in a jiffy through his wisecracks.

Did he pull a fast one on you?
No he didn’t. He (Russell) knows he can’t mess with me so he doesn’t. He knows I’ll give it right back (smiles).

And what about Akshay? Did you get a chance to interact with him?
I didn’t get to be in any scenes with him unfortunately but I first met him when he came to shoot his scene. Vinay and Ajay speak so highly about him that I was really curious to meet Akshay and he did live up to my expectations. He was so gracious. I remember when we were shooting at a gurudwara in Toronto and a lot of fans came up to him and he was really polite with all of them.

Before working in Speedy Singhs, had you seen any Bollywood movies?
I definitely was aware of Bollywood films and had seen a few films here and there. When I arrived in Toronto for the shoot of this film, I was relaxing in my room one day watching TV and they happened to show Dhoom 2 and I was hooked. The fact that its shot in Brazil made me happy and I even went and put some of the songs onto my iPod.

Finally what are your future projects?
I just wrapped up a film called Open Road. It’s a Brazilian- American co-production and I came on board as a producer as well. We are editing it now and hopefully we’ll take it to film festivals next year.

Chandna Arora, TNN Sep 20, 2011, 12.00am IST

Camilla Belle, the American actress making her desi debut with Akshay Kumar’s “Speedy Singhs” aka “Breakaway”, landed in Delhi with Akki on Sunday. Camilla had earlier been to Delhi on Friday, when she quietly went about the city alone, after which she left for the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Delhi was quite an experience, she says – from a rickshaw ride in Old Delhi to the lane-less driving on Delhi roads! In the capital again on Sunday, Camilla fielded questions by Akshay and DT.

DT: You said you’re from LA?
Camilla: Yes, I’ve been working my whole life in the States as an actor. When I read the script, I was drawn to the story, the father-son relationship, the love story, the Indian element… I’ve always loved Indian culture. I went to Toronto and met Vinay (Virmani, the male lead), and started the film, and here we are!

Akshay interrupts and says: Ask her how her experience in India has been.
Camilla: It’s been two days – Friday was my first day in Delhi. We got up really early on Friday to try and see as many things as possible.

Akki: She wants to drive in India. Do you drive back home?
Camilla: Of course I drive. You have to drive in LA.

Akki: What do you think of our driving technique?
Camilla: I feel like there’s no technique – the technique is not to get hit! Everyone drives in the middle, so the lanes don’t mean anything.

Akki: Do you know the least number of road accidents happen in India?
Camilla: The minimum? I didn’t know that. (Neither did we, Akshay!)

Akki: Yup. And it’s amazing how we drive.
Camilla: What scares me most is seeing these kids in the street and all these cars, and the animals and the dogs and… they don’t get hit, they’re fine! For some miraculous reason, the cars are able to not hit anything.

Akki: If you want to get an international license, you should get it here.
Camilla: I’ll really learn how to drive here!

DT: What else have you seen/experienced in India so far?
Camilla: The amount of people at the Golden Temple – I’ve never really seen anything like that. I’ve been to The Vatican and other places of worship all over the world, but nothing like this multitude of people. That was quite overwhelming. But on Friday, we tried to see as much as possible – the Red Fort and the Gandhi memorial, and we went in a rickshaw to Old Delhi. That was crazy! It was so much fun. It’s visual overload, this is a photographer’s dream here. I can’t stop taking pictures, and I have my little video camera filming everything. It’s like a Rolodex going on in my head – it’s very visually stimulating!

Akki: You went to Old Delhi? I was born there. You went to the Red Fort?
Camilla: Yeah.

Akki: To Chandni Chowk?
Camilla: Yes. To the street where there are all these, umm, silver vendors?

Akki: Oh, you went inside?
Camilla: On a rickshaw, yeah.

Akki: That’s where I come from.
Camilla: Really? I was totally clicking with my camera the whole time

Akki: If you want to visit Chandni Chowk, come with me, we’ll go.
Camilla: It’s amazing. We went to the street where everyone buys stuff for weddings…

DT: Were you uncomfortable there as a foreigner?
Camilla: I wasn’t uncomfortable, and I think that’s because I’ve travelled so much. My mom’s Brazilian, and I’ve been to Brazil and Rio. I’m used to the poverty, I’ve seen that – people on the street trying to sell you things and children roaming about. I’ve seen that throughout my life. I haven’t felt overwhelmed by it. My friends who’ve never travelled outside the States have come here and told me that they were really overwhelmed by it. But luckily, I’ve been exposed to it my whole life so it wasn’t shocking for me, or any sort of culture shock, by any means.

Are these the faces of the most iconic couple of all time? Variety reports that director Alex Proyas is targeting up and comers Diego González Boneta and Camilla Belle to play Adam and Eve in his epic action 3D battle “Paradise Lost”, which already sees Bradley Cooper as Lucifer and Benjamin Walker as the Good to his Evil, the archangel Michael. Belle has an official offer on the table to play Eve, while Boneta is the “front-runner” for Adam. It was also reported earlier today that Casey Affleck has joined the cast as Gabriel, and Djimon Hounsou will co-star as Abdiel, the angel of death.

Walker and Cooper will face off in what is described as “the war that began all wars”, beginning with Lucifer’s banishment from Heaven. He then builds his own army to battle Michael’s forces of good, leading to three major battle scenes that take place in Heaven, Hell and eventually Eden. Deadline further details that Eve is in fact the cause of the struggle. Just as Helen of Troy was “the face that launched a thousand ships”, here Eve “sparks the war that began all wars for the future of mankind.” The special effects will be the centerpiece of the film – “300 meets Lord of the Rings with winged warriors” – with production slated to begin in January in Sydney, Australia.

Belle has had more of a roller coaster than a straight rising career, at one point seeming to be on the verge of a breakout with starring roles in “10,000 BC” and “Push” in 2009, but then disappearing when those films didn’t perform as expected at the box office. This role, said to have been highly sought after by young actresses and is the female lead of the film, will be one hell of a comeback for the actress who was last seen in “From Prada to Nada”, a film whose quality and gravitas should be plenty evident based on its title alone.

Boneta is much greener and seems to be in high demand in films now, after having a few recurring roles on teen series like “Pretty Little Liars” and “90210.” The Mexican actor/musician recently landed and wrapped filming the highly coveted lead role of Drew in Adam Shankman’s big screen adaptation of hit Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” after a massive open casting call was performed.
